(Junior) Acquisitions Editor Early Modern Studies (f/m/d)

As Acquisitions Editor Early Modern Studies (ca. 1450⁠–ca. 1800), you will contribute to maintaining and expanding our international portfolio of books, journals and electronic resources for the subjects Legal History and Political Thought, Social and Economic History, History of Science, Technology & Medicine, History of Cartography. Your responsibilities will include acquiring new publishing projects, driving the implementation of our publishing strategy, and managing workflows to ensure excellence across all formats. A key aspect of your role will be building and maintaining professional networks, enabling you to identify opportunities and cultivate collaborations within the global academic community. In your role, you will oversee and closely collaborate with two Associate Editors. This role is filled in Leiden.

Your tasks

  • Build and maintain professional networks with authors and editors, fostering collaborations and leading discussions with key stakeholders
  • Conduct market research and portfolio analyses to identify opportunities for expanding the portfolio
  • Implement publishing policies, managing the portfolio to achieve growth objectives, monitor KPIs, and collaborate with marketing on promotional efforts
  • Oversee financial planning, including budget development, cost forecasting, and revenue monitoring, ensuring alignment with operational goals
  • Manage workflows and ensure the timely and efficient delivery of publishing projects while supporting continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage two Associate Editors working on the portfolio

Your profile

  • A relevant academic degree
  • Experience in academic publishing with a solid understanding of the publishing landscape and processes
  • A keen commercial insight and an entrepreneurial mentality
  • Exceptional communication and networking skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with authors, editors, and other stakeholders in the scholarly community
  • A familiarity with the academic fields in which you will operate, and with digital publishing formats and workflows, with keen interest in industry trends and innovations
  • A proactive, goal-oriented working style with excellent time management skills, balancing independent decision-making and teamwork effectively
  • Strong technical aptitude and adaptability, with the ability to quickly master in-house tools and systems
  • A willingness to travel to international academic conferences on a regular basis
  • Strong communication skills in English
